San Francisco Schools Adds Online Platform for Credit Recovery, Supplemental Instruction

The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) has deployed an online learning platform to provide credit recovery and supplemental instruction to students at its 17 high schools.

Following a request for proposals and a three-stage review process, the district chose to adopt Edgenuity "because it offers an instructional design with multi-dimensional pedagogy and multiple learning paths, adequate methods to assess student learning, and content that is continuously refreshed and up-to-date," according to a news release.

The platform is being deployed this month for credit recovery and supplemental instruction and will be expanded in the future to students seeking an alternative to traditional classes. The district is also offering an online wet lab chemistry class that has received a-g approval.

"Today's students are truly digital natives, having grown up with technology in every part of their lives, so we are thrilled to partner with Edgenuity to provide San Francisco students with an online learning platform that is familiar, rigorous and engaging," said Bill Sanderson, executive director of curriculum and instruction for SFUSD, in a prepared statement.  "Working with Edgenuity, we look forward to maximizing the impact and effectiveness of online learning to help at-risk students and increase overall student achievement and graduation rates."
