25 New Common Core PD Courses Tackle Instructional Shifts

Professional development course provider Knowledge Delivery Systems is adding 25 new Common Core courses to its catalog, addressing topics like curricular shifts and leadership.

Several districts and the entire state of New Mexico have already signed on to use them as part of their Common Core PD efforts. Courses in the program are grade-level specific and follow a blended model, which features interviews, model lessons, and video of real classroom presentation. Both online and face-to-face coaches are provided to support teachers and administrators.

Course topics include:

  • CCSS for school leaders;
  • Instructional Shifts for ELA and math;
  • Implementing the writing standards;
  • Differentiating instruction;
  • Assessment; as well as
  • Nine additional courses on diverse learners, ELLs, curriculum, collaborative planning, and more.
“The old models of PD didn’t work for addressing the old standards; we shouldn’t expect them to work for the Common Core,” said Alvin Crawford, CEO of Knowledge Delivery Systems in a statement. “For the U.S. to deliver on the promise of the Common Core to prepare students for a competitive global environment, it is imperative that districts and states deeply develop our leaders and teachers in making the transition to teaching to the CCSS.”
