Central Massachusetts Schools Get Grants To Fund Technology

A nonprofit foundation that supports the Public Schools of Northborough and Southborough, MA, has awarded $26,000 in grants to 15 schools in its community, many of them to fund technology.

Northborough Education Foundation President Marile Borden said thanks for the grants should go to the corporate sponsors and businesses who support education in Worcester County, located in central Massachusetts.

Among the 15 projects, six in particular will fund technology:

• Mobile Maker Spaces at Marguerite E. Peaslee School will enable students to invent things and solve problems in a self-guided environment using a combination of high-tech and low-tech tools;
• Digging Deeper — Developing Digital Literacy at Marion E. Zeh School will enable the purchase of 10 Chromebooks and a Chromebook cart;
• Fluency with Chromebooks in the Foreign Language Classroom will provide five Chromebooks to be used in the Robert E. Melican Middle School's foreign language classes.
• Getting into Learning with Green Screens and Video, also at Melican Middle School, will provide 10 Chromebooks and green screen technology to to enhance the students use of video;
• Metabolism and Energy Production Evaluation by Calorimetry will allow Algonquin Regional High School to purchase calorimeters and a heated water bath for its science curriculum; and
• Perfect Pairings will fund multiple copies of paired texts along with DVDs that align with the topics or themes presented in printed texts at Lincoln Street School.
