Vernier Offers Summer Data Collection Workshops

Vernier Software & Technology will once again offer its annual Summer Institute workshops to help science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) teachers integrate data-collection technology into their curricula. The workshops provide science teachers with the opportunity to use Vernier technology in classroom-ready experiments that they can take back to their students.

The six-hour one-day institutes are intended to meet the needs of teachers from a wide variety of grade levels and STEM disciplines. Students have the option of earning two quarter credit hours through the Portland State University Center for Science Education.

The one-day workshops will be held at 12 different locations around the country, all the way from Atlanta to Seattle, on dates beginning June 13 and continuing through August 5. Registration fee for the one-day workshops is $99 and includes training, lunch, access to lab handouts and a lab book of choice.

At its Beaverton, OR, headquarters, Vernier will offer one- and two-day subject-specific institutes. As with the workshops, the one-day institutes cost $99. The two-day sessions are $199 and carry the opportunity to earn even more credit from Portland State University.

One-day subject-specific institutes:

• June 29: Engineering for Science Classrooms; and
• June 30: Vernier Sensors With Arduino.

Two-day subject-specific institutes:

• June 27-28: Physics;
• July 18-19: Chemistry;
• July 20-21: Environmental Science; and
• July 22-23: Biology.

"Teachers will leave the institutes with the confidence, knowledge and skills to integrate the technology into their curriculum and engage students in hands-on learning," said Vernier Software & Technology CEO John Wheeler.
