Portland SD Streamlines Student Enrollment Process

Registration Gateway has enabled Portland Public Schools to eliminate paper registration, and have instant access to student information.

Portland Public Schools (PPS) in Oregon has adopted a new student enrollment tool, as part of a district-wide effort to improve communication, efficiency and cost savings.

PPS partnered with SRC Solutions, a provider of online K–12 enrollment solutions, to implement the company’s Registration Gateway tool. With the Registration Gateway, parents can enroll their students in school completely online. In addition, the system includes integration into Aspen Student Information System from Follett, allowing stakeholders to have instant access to information.

Holly Russo, the registrar at PPS, said in statement that parent acceptance is key to the tool’s success. Parents of new students are now required to use Registration Gateway for enrollment and, so far, the process has been met with mostly positive responses. “Parents have found the process easier than hand-written registration. We have completely eliminated the need for parents to fill out paper forms as well as ensuring parents entering the schools reside in the district through Registration Gateway's Address Look-Up feature," said Russo.

PPS made the choice to use the tool after several staffing adjustments took place over the summer. The budget cuts resulted in a reduction of secretarial staff.
