FCC Approves Kajeet to be Lifeline Broadband Provider
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Monday approved internet provider Kajeet to be a Lifeline Broadband Provider, allowing school districts to enroll students from low-income households to receive high-speed internet at home at little-to-no cost to the schools.
The company is now eligible to receive Lifeline Broadband Internet Internet Access Service (BIAS) support. Since 1985, the federal program has offered discounts on phone service for qualifying low-income consumers to ensure that they have access to secure phone and internet. Kajeet, according to a news release, “surpasses basic Lifeline service requirements by offering exclusive Education Lifeline to provide students with up to 15 GB of 4G LTE data per month,” for free to eligible families.
Kajeet partners with school districts to help close the homework gap by providing disadvantaged students with a safe, affordable mobile broadband solution called Education Broadband. Households that enroll in the program will receive a portable Kajeet SmartSpot WiFi device and filtered internet access.
