Nureva Unveils Mobile Span System for Education, Other Products

Nureva Inc., a Calgary, Canada-based collaboration solutions company, is unveiling three new products at this year’s FETC conference in Orlando, FL.

The Nureva Span MC 306i is a mobile cart designed for educators who need flexibility when configuring their collaborative learning spaces. The Span cart integrates a full-HD 1080p solid-state interactive projector and a customer-supplied PC within a mobile unit to provide a 6-foot, 2-inch (1.88 mm) wide image projected onto a wall. Two infrared pens provide touch interactivity at the wall, and two or three carts can be linked seamlessly together to produce 12-foot, 4-inch or 18-foot, 6-inch (3.76 m and 5.64 m, respectively) interactive workspaces.

The MC306i can be wheeled up to virtually any classroom wall to transform it into an interactive surface for student-led collaboration and project work. The system is built for Span software, which creates an expansive, cloud-based canvas into which groups of students can contribute their ideas for discussion, critical analysis and problem solving. Students can create and interact with content directly on the wall from their personal tablets or laptops.

The manufacturer’s suggested retail price for K–12 is $5,249.

Nureva is also releasing its WM307i Span system, featuring a full-HD 1080p solid-state, interactive projector. Combined with a customer supplied PC, the WM307i creates a 7-foot wide interactive digital wall.

The ultra-short-throw 16:9 projector offers:

• 3300 lumens, creating clear contrast in brightly lit rooms;
• 25,000 hours of expected life (similar to flat-panel displays) and high resistance to dust; and
• An energy efficient optical engine that consumes 80 percent less power than lamp-based projectors and 30 percent less power than an 84-inch (2.13 m) flat-panel display.

The projector also features an optional WhisperTek surface — a bezel-less, lightly textured surface with a diffusive coating that enhances brightness and color while eliminating hot spots and glare, according to a news release. The MSRP for K–12 is $5,999.

Finally, Nureva is preparing to roll out a new quick-share feature for its Span software, allowing anyone to quickly and easily add digital sticky notes and images to a canvas without the need for a Span software subscription.

When a canvas owner turns on quick-share mode, the software generates an access code that can be shared with a group. After entering this code into a web page, students can contribute notes and images to the canvas using their phones, tablets or laptops. The quick-share feature is designed for situations requiring ad hoc input from students on a given topic or learning environments where smartphones are the primary student device.

Once added to the canvas, contributions can be moved, edited, grouped and otherwise manipulated by anyone who has access to the canvas at the wall or through a user account.

The quick-share feature will be available March 31 within an education subscription to Span software. Pricing starts at $5 per student, per year.
