With the use of Google Drive tools (Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, etc.) becoming commonplace in K–12 classrooms, integrating Google within other classroom tools could save educators the trouble of constantly switching between platforms. That is the thinking behind Schoology’s latest update: Beginning with the 2017-18 school year, educators using the company's learning management system (LMS) will be able to use Google Drive more easily within the LMS to manage grades, assignments and student submissions.

Schoology’s update seeks to “streamline the experience of using Google tools within Schoology for teachers, students and administrators,” allowing them to spend less time and energy searching for documents, according to a company statement. Teachers and administrators, for example, will soon be able to easily search, browse and use Google Docs within the LMS. In addition, they will have the ability to monitor student progress on an assignment, offering grades and feedback on the Google Doc, in real-time without leaving the platform.

Schoology is hosting a virtual meeting April 13 at 2:00 p.m. EST on the update. Users can also preview the update at the Schoology NEXT user conference, taking place in Chicago, IL, July 24-26.
