Smoothwall Debuts Off-Site Filtering for Chrome

Smoothwall has unveiled Cloud Filter for Chrome, an off-site filtering tool for the Chrome browser.

The new tool allows schools to customize URL filtering for devices running Chrome when they are on or off campus and whether they are connected to the school or district network or not.  Cloud Filter for Chrome switches between on- and off-premise filtering seamlessly, installs in minutes and is easy to use, according to information released by Smoothwall. "Early iterations of the product will include filtering by level, a simple way to scale filtering stringency to preferred levels and a simplified reporting module, to heed of problems early," according to a news release.

"Smoothwall has really taken the time to get the input of districts that will use this product to provide a better solution for their customers," said Monica Chartier, information technology technician at the School District of Florence County, in a prepared statement. "Having a way to filter Chromebooks using the same extension both on and off campus will be very beneficial and time saving."

Cloud Filter for Chrome is slated for release in August. More information is available at us.smoothwall.com. ISTE attendees can visit the company at the conference this week in booth 2340.
