The College Board, which administers the SAT and Advanced Placement tests and programs, has teamed up with nonprofit Khan Academy to create preparatory materials and exercises for AP courses, to be available for free on Khan Academy’s website.

Khan Academy will offer “free instructional videos, articles and practice exercises,” which will include “daily classroom activities, homework and independent learning,” according to the academy’s website. Lessons will be offered in the following AP subjects:

  • Calculus AB;
  • Calculus BC;
  • Statistics;
  • U.S. History;
  • World History;
  • Art History;
  • Physics 1;
  • Physics 2;
  • Chemistry;
  • Biology;
  • Macroeconomics; and
  • Microeconomics.

Khan Academy will consult with former and current AP teachers, as well as “members of the AP community,” the organization said on its site. The academy is asking for feedback from current and former AP teachers and students.

Khan Academy aims to offer practice exercises for every AP course and make them available as soon as possible. Some exercises are already available for the AP Calculus courses.

In 2014, the College Board started a partnership with Khan Academy to provide free online resources and tutoring for the SAT college-entrance exam.

The free AP resources are expected to be available during the 2019-20 school year, the organizations announced Friday during an annual AP conference in Washington, D.C.

The partnership is part of an effort to make AP courses less elitist and more available to a broader range of students, regardless of academic background, according to College Board President David Coleman, who spoke with Education Week last week.
