Samsung STEAM Competition Asks Students to Solve Community Challenges
Samsung is bringing back its STEAM competition that encourages students to be involved in local community issues.
The Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Content is open to public school teachers in the United States. STEAM teachers in grades 6-12 can submit an application through Nov. 9 for a chance to win a share of $2 million worth of Samsung tech. The application asks three questions about how their students plan to use STEAM to combat a local challenge, which can focus on poverty, equality challenges and other issues.
“As a teacher, I’m always looking for new ways to get my students excited about the curriculum, and last year, it was Samsung Solve for Tomorrow that made all the difference,” said Michael Eilertsen, a teacher at Snowflake Junior High School (AZ) and previous contest winner, in a prepared statement. “My students not only fostered the critical thinking skills they need for future careers, they also had an active role in safeguarding the people and wildlife in our community.”
While only teachers in grades 6-12 may apply, this year Samsung introduced a referral gateway program that allows all public school employees to refer educators. If their referral submits an application, the individual will be entered for a chance to receive a Samsung mobile device or TV.
