zSpace Teams with Mimbus to Bring Augmented Reality to Welding Students

zSpace, a provider of augmented reality tools for education, has partnered with Mimbus to offer vocational and technical students a new way to practice welding techniques.

The companies have teamed up on Wave NG Edu, an application that pairs zSpace's mixed reality environment with a Mimbus' Wave NG welding simulator to allow students to practice "hands-on" techniques through a series of exercises.

"Using the zSpace platform, students receive a multi-sensory training experience, welding from multiple angles while using their eyes, ears, and hands to master core skills of the welder's trade such as concentration, precision and dexterity," according to a news release.

The augmented reality exercises also reduce breakage and wear on equipment, risk of injury to the student, time required to complete training and costs associated with consumable materials, according to information released by the companies.

“From shipbuilding, automobile and aerospace applications to the construction of buildings, bridges, and refineries, highly skilled welders are in high demand,” said Paul Kellenberger, president and CEO, zSpace. "By partnering with Mimbus to create this mixed reality solution for manufacturing, we are positioning schools to provide advanced training without accident risks and making the learning environment a safer place.”
