iRobot Unveils New Create 3 Educational Robot with ROS 2 and Python Support

Consumer robot maker iRobot Corp. today marked National Robotics Week by debuting its newest educational robot, the Create 3, designed for educators and robotics students, the company said in a news release.

Also today, iRobot introduced a Python Web Playground for the Root and Create 3 robots, providing a path for beginning robotics learners to transition to more advanced programming skills beyond the iRobot Coding App, according to the news release.

The Create 3 is based on the Roomba i3 Series robot vacuum platform and is compatible with ROS 2, iRobot Education’s SDK for Python 3, or the iRobot Coding app. With the plug-and-go Create 3, students can learn the fundamentals of robotics, computer science, and engineering by programming the device to perform simple behaviors, sounds, and movements, iRobot said.

The iRobot Education Python Web Playground, accessible online at python.irobot.com, allows students to program the Root and Create 3 devices with a common library written in Python, a commonly used coding language in STEM careers.

Create 3 is available now in North America, iRobot said. Learn more at the iRobot Education website.
