  • Pindex Promises Pinterest for Educators

    Although Stephen Fry has left Twitter, the popular British actor and writer hasn't given up on social media altogether. Numerous sources have reported that Fry is involved in an education start-up being pitched as a "Pinterest for education." Pindex allows teachers, students and anybody else to create online pinboards for collecting "the best educational material."

    Participate Learning now allows educators to submit open educational resources (OERs) to its Learning Registry by tweeting a link with the #ParticipateOER hashtag.

  • High Schoolers Sweep Top Spots at Cornell MakeaThon

    Over the course of a weekend, 14 teams made up of college students and high schoolers identified problems, created working prototypes, pitched the audience on their ideas and did demos of their solutions as part of Cornell University's Make-a-Thon.

    Combine creative teaching with STEM and energetic students, and you'll get guidance on how to design and build eco-friendly mini homeless shelters for homeless teens; apply signal processing in smartwatches to notify pedestrians when vehicles are approaching at unsafe speeds; and explore alternatives for melting ice on city roads without using salt. All of these solutions are finalists in this year's "Solve for Tomorrow" contest, put on by Samsung.
