NEC Launches Star Student Program

10.31.2006—Irving, Texas-based NEC Corp. of America Monday announced a new program for education: NEC Star Student. The enrollment-based program allows educators to receive discounts on projectors and replacement lamps, as well as free extended warranties.

NEC Star Student comprises four individual programs.

  • EDUwards is a frequent-purchaser program for schools that buy projectors, plasma displays, accessories and warranties. It assigns point values to each purchase, and points can be redeemed for projection equipment. One point is earned for each dollar spent, with bonuses at certain levels.
  • The PowerUp program lets educators earn money toward the purchase of a new projector when they turn in an old one.
  • Free warranty: Purchasers enrolled in the NEC Star Student program receive a free fourth-year warranty on VT-series projectors and a third-year warranty on LT-, VT-, WT- and NP-series projectors.
  • Lamp Protect: This program provides lamp protection for up to three years from the date of purchase.

According to a prepared statement released by the company, NEC Star Student is available to all accredited, not-for-profit educational institutions, including public and private schools in the United States and Canada. K-12 schools, colleges, universities and home schools "with vocational and technical instruction or administration" are eligible.
