Miami-Dade Deploys Cognos 8 Business Intelligence

Miami-Dade is now using C8 BI for managing, analyzing and reporting on grades, attendance rates and other areas of student performance.
"We really love that we can drill down to the individual child and be very aware of what is going on for each student," said Debbie Karcher, CIO, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, in a prepared statement. "With Cognos 8 BI we can spot problems and weaknesses in schools and individual students much more quickly than before, allowing us to successfully meet the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act. We can deliver this information to a wider audience and are able to let teachers and schools know where action needs to be taken."
Using C8 BI, Miami-Dade is also expected to be able to reduce intervention times when necessary. Previously attendance figures for some schools lagged by up to six weeks, but now these figures are available almost immediately.
Miami-Dade is the fourth-largest school district in the United States, with 350,000 students and 50,000 employees. And according to a document released today, the district expects to be able to present trending information via Web portals to 1 million people, including teachers, students, administrators and parents.
According to Cognos, the company's solutions are currently deployed in more than 530 K-12 school districts, 13 state departments of education and the U.S. Federal Department of Education.
