Texas SBE Adds Saxon Math to Adoption List

2/8/2007—According to Harcourt Achieve imprint Saxon Publishers, the Texas State Board of Education has approved Saxon Math Courses 1, 2 and 3 for its instructional materials adoption list for middle school students. The company said yesterday that the curriculum "is 100 percent conforming and covers each required element of essential knowledge and skills."

Saxon Math Courses 1, 2, and 3 Texas Edition were initially released in April 2006 "in an effort to align to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and to provide middle school students with a strong mathematics foundation necessary to take on high school and college in a high-stakes learning environment," according to Saxon. The courses are designed for grades 6, 7 and 8, respectively, and include digital content and hard-bound texts. The series also includes an electronic gradebook, electronic lesson planner, teacher's manual ebook, student edition ebook, a test and practice generator, and online activities.

"In using Saxon Math programs, such as Algebra 1/2, we have found that the repetition of concepts approach stands out as a key difference from other programs we have used," said Joe Palmer, principal of Salado ISD Intermediate School in Salado, TX, in a prepared statement. "As our math scores have always exceeded state results, we plan to examine the new program closely."
