Benton County Implements Anonymous Student Reporting

2/15/2007—Benton County School District in Mississippi is launching a new service to help deal with students' personal problems, such as threats and bullying. The service, "Talk About It," from AnComm, lets students report their problems anonymously to school personnel via the Internet.

"With the escalation in school violence, administrators across the country are looking for ways to prevent tragic events in their own schools," said AnComm. "One of the best ways to reduce such violence is to encourage students to report threats of intimidation or harassment, but students are often reluctant to file reports for fear of retaliation."

Talk About It is an online messaging tool that's designed to bridge the communication gap and allow students to report issues anonymously and "engage in safe dialogue with school personnel," AnComm said. It allows students with Internet access to report these problems and receive real-time feedback from school personnel.

Benton County School District will implement the service in its Ashland Elementary, Ashland Junior High, Ashland High School, and Hickory Flat Attendance Center. The district is using Safe and Drug Free Schools funds for the annual licensing fee.

AnComm also serves schools in Texas, Wyoming, California, Ohio, and Arkansas.
