##AUTHORSPLIT##<--->

3/8/2007—Math curriculum developer Carnegie Learning has introduced a Math Prep for the WASL, a prep course for Washington's 10th grade state exit exam, Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL).

Math Prep is the latest addition to Carnegie's Cognitive Tutor software line. The new course combines elements from other Carnegie programs from its "Bridge to" series: Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. Carnegie said it can be employed as a full-blown WASL prep course, a diagnostic tool to determine remediation needs, and a supplemental intervention program.

"We are proud that students in Washington have shown consistent improvement in math scores since 2003, but the results show that there is still work to be done," said Mary Ann Stine, director of curriculum and instruction for Everett Public Schools in Washington, in a prepared statement. "We're committed to working toward 100 percent proficiency, and tools like Carnegie Learning's Math Prep provide a new and welcome focus on the need to intervene in order to help students to succeed."

Math Prep for the WASL includes:

  • A diagnostic software pre-test;
  • Math intervention software;
  • A guide for teachers;
  • Professional development training;
  • Software assessment tools; and
  • Report of student progress against Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALR).

Carnegie also offers California, Florida, and Texas edtions of Math Prep, as well as a national edition. The compay said it will continue to release further state-sepcific prep courses throughout the year.
