LS Education Desktop Integrates SchoolM@il

LearningStation has partnered with ePals to integrate ePals' SchoolM@il into its LS Education Desktop. The deal will allow Education Desktop users to access SchoolM@il and the ePals Global Learning Community within LearningStation's platform.
Targeted toward K-12, the Web-based Education Desktop is a delivery platform for e-learning applications currently in use by some 500,000 students, teachers, and parents. It provides access to a variety of learning, collaboration, and communications tools through a single login.
SchoolM@il is an integrated, teacher-monitored e-mail system that includes translation for eight languages, spell checking, virus and spam filters, and file-sharing capabilities. The formerly subscription-based service was made free for K-12 schools beginning back in September 2007, along with two other online services: SchoolBlog and In2Books. SchoolBlog is a literacy education tool that offers teacher-supervised message boards that encourage students to share and collaborate in a secure online environment. In2Books is an online literacy curriculum.
According to LearningStation, the new ePals integration is debuting in a state-wide deployment in Kansas.
"Having this type of collaboration and communication tool integrated into the Desktop will help students develop critical 21st century skills that will equip them for their futures." said Melinda Stanley, director of educational technology for the Kansas State Department of Education, in a statement released to coincide with the partnership announcement.
