Curriki Revamps K-12 Resource, Adds Sesame Workshop Content

Curriki, an online K-12 community focused on sharing open source curricula and learning materials, is expanding its functionality and this week completed the first phase of an overhaul of its site. It's also added content from Sesame Workshop.
Curriki is an online education community and repository for K-12 resources for teachers and students. The site at present offers around 16,000 free and open source learning resources, including activities, assessments, lesson plans, and complete courses.
The site has now been reorganized and has gained additional functionality aimed at making accessing these resources easier. It's also added new features to make contributing content and connecting with other educators and students more straightforward.
Through a deal with Sesame Workshop, Curriki is also now offering that publisher's educational program called Panwapa, which is focused on teaching children "how to become responsible global citizens."
Curriki explained it: "Panwapa begins with new Muppet characters--such as "Azibo the Monster" and "Athena the Owl"--who share their stories about learning to build a community on Panwapa Island. The stories feature real children and their experiences in different parts of the world. Intended for grades preK-2, the collection of educational materials includes movies, exercises and lesson plans designed to help young children understand and appreciate different cultures. In one interactive game, children learn about how other communities face basic needs. In others, they gather and present information about their own culture or community, in order to better appreciate other cultures."
The materials are free through Curriki.
As we reported previously, Curriki has also struck a deal with Education Development Center (EDC) to deliver that company's K-12 open source curricula. Further information on that can be found here.
Curriki presently has about 40,000 registered members and said it expects the number of free and open source learning resources on its site to reach 28,000 by the end of 2008.
