##AUTHORSPLIT##<--->

New versions of Moodle have been released, bringing the most recent stable build to 1.9.3. The latest round of updates includes a number of bug fixes and security enhancements, as well as improvements to the SCORM module.

Moodle is one of the most popular learning management systems out there. The open-source LMS, as of this writing, had nearly 25 million users participating in nearly 2.4 million courses at more than 45,000 registered sites, according to Moodle's published statistics. The latest changes in Moodle 1.9.3 include improvements to SCORM, including passing all SCORM 1.2 Conformance tests, improved SCORM object visualization, and a new debug tool, among others; several new settings in the categories of Gradebook reports, enrollments, and statistics, among others; and other miscellaneous new options and capabilities. It also includes several fixes and security enhancements, including a ix for the Firefox password manager problem and others.

Information about these and other changes in Moodle 1.9.3 can be found here.

Moodle 1.8.7, 1.7.6, and 1.6.8 have also been released. In a blog post from last week, Moodle recommended that users of version 1.8.x, 1.7.x, and 1.6.x upgrade to these latest stable builds, as they do not add new features but simply fix existing bugs and security vulnerabilities. (Moodle also recommends that al sites upgrade to 1.9.3 as soon as practical owing to the significant performance improvements over previous/legacy releases, such as 1.8 or 1.7.)

The latest builds, including the "official" 1.9.3 release, can be found here.
