Moodlerooms, Learning Edge Partner To Bring Digital Repository to Moodle Bundle

Moodlerooms is integrating the EQUELLA digital repository into its learning management platform, powered by the open-source Moodle LMS. Through a new partnership with The Learning Edge North America, the platform will incorporate EQUELLA without adding any new licensing fees.

Moodlerooms is a Moodle partner that provides services centered around the Moodle learning management system for both K-12 and higher education. Its learning management platform, Moodlerooms LMP, is a custom package designed to extend the functionality of Moodle based on the needs of a given institution with training, additional modules, and other features. Moodlerooms describes it as a "configurable end-to-end solution for institutions and organizations seeking the benefits of Moodle with extended features, functionality and personalized service."

Now, through the partnership, which is expected to be formally announced Monday, the package will also include the EQUELLA digital repository, which, aside from serving as a repository for learning objects, also provides content authoring and content management functionality. Content authoring functionality includes a Web-based WYSIWYG HTML editor that can be used to create both static and dynamic HTML pages. The digital repository offers search by keyword, content type, and metadata; hierarchical browsing; and federated search across external repositories.

"Institutions can establish a fully integrated environment that fosters collaborative creation, sharing and discovery of learning objects between multiple trusted repositories--a benefit that expands the current content management and collaboration functionalities of Moodle," Moodlerooms explained in a statement. "Course creators can then use built-in Moodle modules and single sign-on capabilities to seamlessly access EQUELLA and incorporate content into courses."

Moodle itself is the most widely adopted learning management system by all accounts. The open-source LMS has more than 28.74 million users participating in 2.84 million courses at 43,319 registered and validated sites alone, according to Moodle's published statistics. More than 7,800 of these sites are in the United States. Worldwide, there are about 1.28 million teachers on the system currently.

Further information about EQUELLA can be found here. Further information about the Moodlerooms LMP can be found here.

Both companies will also be at the Educause Conference in November. Moodlerooms will be at booth 123. The Learning Edge North America will be in booths 1027 and 1029.
