Smart Brings Classroom Management Suite to Mac OS X

Smart Technologies has brought its classroom management suite, Smart Sync 2010, to the Mac platform.

Smart Sync is a tool that allows instructors to control student classroom computers over a wired or wireless network, giving them the ability to monitor students' computers via thumbnails displayed on the teacher's computer; share information with students; transfer files between machines; share any computer screen with the rest of the class; and control which applications and sites students can access during class.

Other features include:

  • Support for creating custom groups of students;
  • The ability to log out and shut down all computers in the classroom with a single click; and
  • Support for locking student systems on the fly.

Smart Sync 2010 for Mac OS X is available now with support for Mac OS X 10.5.4 or later. Pricing varies by class size, but the company said licenses for medium-sized classrooms start at $799. The initial release is available in English only, though additional languages will be supported in 2011, according to Smart. Further information can be found here.
