Brief: QuarkXPress Gets Docx Support

Quark has released QuarkXPress 8.5, an update to the company's professional page layout and design tool.

The latest release is a relatively minor update, with features like a new Quark Updater and updates to Pantone swatch libraries, including CMYK, Color Bridge, Pastels & Neons (coated and uncoated), and Premium Metallics Chips (coated). But it also adds support for files in the Office Open XML format (files with the .docx extension), including both importing and exporting.

QuarkXPress 8.5 is available now as a free update for QuarkXPress 8.x users. The version for Mac OS X can be downloaded here. The version for Windows can be downloaded here. Free 60-day trial editions are also available. Academic pricing varies. Institutional licenses are available starting at $119 per seat. Individual academic licenses run $199. For K-12, a 250-seat license is available for $1,799 (about $7 per seat), with multi-campus licenses also available. Further details can be found here.
