Brief: Software Brings iOS Device Support to Fiery Printers

Electronics for Imaging (EFI) this week launched EFI PrintMe Connect, software tool that allows users to print to Fiery-powered printers and multifunction devices via their iOS 4.2 devices, including iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The software, available free, allows users to print from any application.

EFI provides printing technology for its own printers, as well as a wide range of common printers and multi-function devices from third-party manufacturers. According to the company, currently there are more than 250,000 installed devices based on Fiery technologies.

According to information released by EFI, "With AirPrint and the iOS 4.2 software, people using Apple devices will find a print function automatically enabled on their device and can select a printer on their network and print. Once installed by a corporate IT department, PrintMe Connect for AirPrint will show all available Fiery [System 8]-driven printers as destinations on a user's printer list. There is no need for the individual user to download an application or for the enterprise to purchase a specific iOS-enabled printer or upgrade or modify existing printers or MFPs."

EFI PrintMe Connect for AirPrint can be downloaded free from EFI's site here.
