7 Members Named to National Assessment Governing Board

Seven members have been named to the National Assessment Governing Board (NAGB), the organization that oversees and sets policies for the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP).

NAEP is an ongoing program whose aim is to measure academic achievement trends across a wide variety of disciplines.

Five of the board members named this week are new to NAGB, while two--Lou Fabrizio and Susan Pimentel--are continuing on from pervious terms. Fabrizio is North Carolina Department of Public Instruction's data, research, and federal policy director. He fulfills the role of testing and measurement expert for the board and chairs NAGB's standards, design, and methodology committee. Curriculum specialist Pimentel is an education consultant who serve's on NAGB's assessment development committee and nominations committee.

New board members include Andrés Alonso, CEO of Baltimore City Public Schools; Terry Holliday, Kentucky Department of Education commissioner; Dale Nowlin, a teacher at Indiana's Columbus North High School; B. Fielding Rolston, Tennessee State Board of Education chair; and Cary Sneider, an associate research professor at Portland State University.

All will serve four-year terms on the board.
