Canvas App Center Brings 1-Click Access to LMS Add-ons

Instructure today revealed a new tool that allows users to add third-party extensions to its flagship LMS, Canvas, with a single click.

The Canvas App Center, when it goes live, will provide educators and students with access to "more than 100 apps, including WordPress, Khan Academy, Dropbox, Evernote, and an arsenal of other useful apps," according to Instructure. It will include features for finding apps (user searches and recommendations based on the user's role, institution, and past installations) and rating and reviewing those apps.

Some of the software will be free, and others will be paid. Instructure indicated it will not receive commission on the sale paid software.

Canvas is a learning management system currently used by some 350 educational institutions, according to information published by Instructure, including K-12 schools, colleges, and universities.

The Canvas App Center is expected to go live in June, coinciding with the InstructureCon 2013 user conference, which will take place June 18–20 in Park City, Utah.
