Yammer Enterprise Coming to Microsoft Office 365 Education Plans

Microsoft is offering Yammer Enterprise as part of all Office 365 Education plans at no additional cost beginning April 1. Current customers can use Yammer Basic immediately.

Yammer is billed as an "enterprise social network." It features a Facebook-like timeline but is focused on productivity and collaboration, with support for groups and tools for sharing documents. The enterprise edition features centralized admin tools, enterprise app management, single sign-on and service and support.

According to a blog post on TechNet, "Yammer will power the social experiences in SharePoint, Office365, Dynamics and Skype. Yammer's unique adoption model appeals directly to end users and makes it easy for organizations to become social 'instantly' – removing one of the biggest barriers to success with Enterprise Social. We're committed to bringing the two together to deliver 'Connected Experiences' that combine social, collaboration e-mail and Unified Communications with an enterprise-class social platform for security, management and compliance."

Beginning April 1, according to the blog post, admins will receive an activation link and will be able to begin a self-provisioning process.

Additional details about Yammer can be found on about.yammer.com. Further details about the program for education customers can be found on TechNet.
