ALEKS Now Eligible for STEM Grant in Utah

The state of Utah has approved McGraw-Hill Education's ALEKS system for middle and high school math and has made it eligible for grants through Utah's STEM Action Center.

ALEKS is a Common Core-aligned adaptive learning tool for mathematics that's designed to facilitate differentiated/personalized instruction.

Utah is providing $8 million in grants for the 2014-2015 school year through the STEM Action Center, which is operated under the auspices of the Utah Governor's Office of Economic Development. Those funds can be used to purchase tools that have been approved by the center.

"Proficiency in math is a precursor to some of the most exciting careers available to students after both high school and college," said Peter Cohen, president of McGraw-Hill School Education Group, in a prepared statement. "One of the biggest challenges, however, is making sure that the math curriculum is appropriate for the individual student—not too easy, not too challenging. ALEKS helps teachers efficiently pinpoint exactly what their students know now and what they are ready to tackle next, making class time more effective and engaging. We're proud that Utah has selected ALEKS for such an important initiative."
