Explore Seashore Via 3D Models

Using a dramatic SGI- rendered 3D model, One Small Square: Seashore allows kids to manipulate and explore a seashore's ecosystem. An extensive database contains more than 170 plants and animals. Based on Scientific American's Books for Young Readers series, the CD-ROM has a tone and language appropriate for 8-12 year olds. Some highlights are 35 minutes of rich video footage and animal sounds, a personal journal for recording field notes and photographs, and an experiment section. In addition to onscreen interaction, One Small Square: Seashore encourages students to supplement and test their knowledge by performing activities in the real world. Future releases will cover other ecosystems: the desert, Arctic tundra and African Savannah. Virgin Sound and Vision, Los Angeles, CA, (800) 814-3530.
