New Products - VITEC Multimedia's DCM

A complete encoding, authoring and editing solution, VITEC Multimedia's DCM is a combination of a DVD toolbox software and a PCI card featuring the new VM2000 proprietary chip. The new card provides high-quality, low-cost, real-time MPEG-2 encoding and decoding using the new VM2000 chip. It uses an encoder chip with a hybrid hardware/software architecture that allows the product to utilize the improvements of Pentium processing speeds. The VM2000 acts as a specialized coprocessor of the Pentium.

For adapting to streaming video, a software development kit is available. The kit provides a comprehensive set of tools to further develop customized digital streaming video applications. Also included is the ability to preview the video on a PC monitor while encoding, or the option to pass-through to a TV monitor when encoding.

Along with the card, all the software features of VITEC's DVD Toolbox are included, providing an editing and authoring suite. Applications include: MPEG Maker 2, an AVI and BMP to MPEG-2 and MPEG-1 converter; Video Clip MPEG-2, an MPEG-2 frame-accurate editor to edit existing MPEG files; and DVDMaker, a simple authoring program to define linear chapters and generate DVD images on disk.
