Texas District Implements Plato Online Curriculum

##AUTHORSPLIT##<--->

El Paso Independent School District will implement an online intervention curriculum from Plato Learning, a developer of K-12 and adult education e-learning solutions. The new content will provide online credit recovery and state test remediation courses to 15 secondary schools in the district, with plans for additional implementation in the future.

"We wanted anywhere, anytime access to our credit recovery and intervention courseware," said Charlie Geach, science facilitator for El Paso Independent School District. "I have worked with online learning for many years, so the Web-based aspect of the Plato Learning curriculum was perfect for our needs."

The district plans to focus the new remediation courses on the Texas Assessment of Skills and Knowledge test. "Plato Learning is the only solution with a diagnostic and prescriptive TAKS (Texas Assessment Knowledge and Skills test) component, which will help our faculty target the specific concepts our students need to learn to succeed on the test," Geach added.

After the program's deployment, the district will track graduation rates, senior test scores, and, eventually, the test scores of incoming freshman for comparison, according to Plato. The district also looks to use the program to assist in the subject-driven exit exams that will be required by the state in 2010.

El Paso Independent School District currently has 63,000 students enrolled on more than 90 campuses.
