Georgia District Adopts Gaming Suite for PreK

The Henry County School District in Georgia has brought educational gaming its its preK and special education students. This semester, the district purchased 21 copies of AT KidSystems' Cosmo's Learning Systems--a combination of hardware and software targeted toward 2- to 8-year-olds.
Cosmo's Learning Systems include Cosmo's Play and Learn software and a hardware controller for interacting with the software, which provides interactive, "developmentally appropriate" activities for kids, along with data collection and individualized assessments. The controller, called Mission Control, is a multi-function interface that includes buttons and a microphone.
"I am always looking for innovative products that teachers can easily use. Cosmo's Learning Systems met my three criteria of being easy to use, aligning with students' individual education program goals and having the capability of collecting data," said Randy Martins, assistive technology intervention teacher for the district, in a statement released this week. "What really won us over was that AT KidSystems provided on-site, hands-on training to the teaching staff. It was a real proactive, positive way to encourage the teachers to start using the product."
Henry County is using the software and hardware with some 200 preK and special education students. The district enrolls about 40,000 students total in 43 schools, with an additional 17 schools expected to be added by 2015.
