Omtool, eSped Partner for Special Ed Document Management

##AUTHORSPLIT##<--->

Technology providers Omtool and eSped have partnered to develop a new document management solution for special education in K-12 schools. eSped is a developer of Web-based solutions for special ed, while Omtool is a document capture and management technology provider. The new solution combines the two technologies to help capture, organize, manage, and distribute documents related to special education cases.

According to Omtool, "A school district's management of special education operates under strict state and federal regulatory frameworks. Each year, the typical special education case generates dozens of pages of confidential, regulated documents. Some cases involve as much as 100 to 150 pages annually, including individual education plans (IEPs), transition plans, progress reports, medical reports, assessments, evaluations from psychologists and other therapists, correspondence, and other student data."

The new solution combines document capture and routing technologies based on Omtool's AccuRoute with eSped's online applications, using a networked scanner or multi-function device to capture documents, then process and distribute them.

"We have traditionally stored paper in so many cabinets, shelves, nooks, and crannies," said Julianna Bahosh, director of Pupil Services at Hudson Public Schools in Massachusetts. "Now we can get rid of a lot of the paper. Not only does that reduce the costs of paper consumption, it speeds the special education process and simplifies collaboration. Team members can easily share documents, route them, and print them. With our regulated timeframes and privacy and retention requirements, eSped provides a real advantage to us."
