Barracuda Offers Schools Discounts on Security Products

As part of what it has deemed a "Think Cloud" promotion, Barracuda Networks is offering K-12 schools and school districts discounts on its Barracuda Backup Service and its Barracuda Web Security Flex programs.

K-12 customers can now get the backup service, which provides local data backup and offsite storage, for a 20-percent discount, and the web security flex, which delivers cloud-based malware protection; URL filtering; and application control, for a 30-percent discount.

"Barracuda Networks recognizes that tight budgets often prohibit customers in the education market from fully exploring technologies and solutions," said Barracuda Vice President of Worldwide Sales Michael Hughes. "In an environment where more is expected but fewer resources are provided, the cloud can be a powerful tool for secure Web browsing and data protection for K-12 customers."

Barracuda Backup Service provides local and offsite data backup and disaster recovery. It combines an onsite appliance with a service subscription that replicates data at two offsite locations.

The economics of Barracuda Web Security Flex center around the size of the total user population protected rather than the specifics of the deployment. Plus, after the initial setup fee, there are no additional recurring charges for maintenance of the hardware. Nor are there additional software license fees.

Barracuda also recently launched a free tool, Barracuda Profile Protector, that helps protect social networking users against malicious threats on Facebook and Twitter.
