Lexia To Launch Free iPad App

Lexia Learning will launch a free iPad app for reading proficiency software Lexia Reading in late 2012, according to the Concord, MA-based company.

Web-based Lexia Reading designates each student with a skill level, groups students by skill, and provides structured lesson plans, which are linked from the reporting interface. Lexia is designed for reading development in grades preK-4, and to "accelerate reading development for at-risk students in grades 4-12," according to information on the company's Web site.

The iPad app will include the same functionality as the Web version, which includes:

  • Focus on comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, phonics, and phonemic awareness;
  • Lexia's embedded Assessment Without Testing technology, which provides norm-referenced performance data on skill gaps, a percentage chance of the student reaching his or her goal, and certificates of achievement;
  • Seven lessons for Smart and Promethean boards that focus on the most difficult reading skills; and
  • Real-time reports on student progress and areas for improvement.

The new app follows the release last year of the MyLexia app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. This app allows instructors to access student and class data from anywhere.

The new app will be free to Lexia Reading subscribers.
