Discussion Board Focuses on Change for Cleveland Schools

The Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) this week opened up an online discussion forum to encourage citizens to provide input on changes they want to see in the schools and ideas for boosting student performance. The district will use the feedback from the conversations to shape its 4-year Implementation Plan.

"It is essential that we engage all stakeholders in the school reform process," said CMSD CEO Eric Gordon, in a prepared statement. "We are committed to ensuring that the community's voice and vision is at the heart of the plan when finalized."

Civic Commons, a social media site that hosts online conversations designed to bring citizens together for the purpose of civic involvement, will moderate the discussions. Participants will answer questions on a range of topics, including "how to fix existing schools, open new ones or sponsor quality charter schools; how best to attract, support and train effective educators, or how to design the most effective curriculum and ensure that needed equipment, technology and instructional materials are available to students."

The Cleveland Public Library and the Cleveland Leadership Center have partnered with CMSD to promote the conversations.
