DC Elementary Schools Open Blended Math Lab

Students at Hearst and Leckie elementary schools of District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) will receive instructional math software, professional development, and ongoing educational support in an effort to improve student performance.

The initiative is the result of a partnership between Hyundai Motor America and the education non-profit MIND Research Institute.

The blended learning model on which the initiative is based features visual math puzzles practiced by students in a computer lab setting, then connected by teachers to math concepts in the classroom.

DCPS serves 45,000 students at 125 schools and programs in the metropolitan Washington DC area.

The MIND Research Institute develops and deploys math instructional software and systems. The non-profit also conducts basic neuroscientific, mathematics, and education research to improve math education and advance scientific understanding. MIND’s programs currently reach 475,000 students and 16,000 teachers in more than 1,375 schools in 26 states.

Hyundai has partnered with MIND to help install Math Labs around California for students to visit and enhance their spatial abilities and quantitative reasoning powers.
