Virtual Classroom Platform Offers Free Academic Memberships for Instructors

WizIQ is making its distance learning platform free for K-12 teachers and college and university instructors.

WizIQ is an online service that provides virtual classroom capabilities via Web browser or through the WizIQ apps for iOS and Android. It allows teachers to create and deliver courses live or on demand and includes functionality like tests and quizzes, chat, screen sharing, whiteboarding, file sharing, breakout sessions, various reporting tools, and courseware management.

WizIQ is also available in the form of a plugin for Moodle. The plugin, WizIQ Virtual Classroom, is a collaborative learning tool that provides audio conferencing, videoconferencing (with up to six live video streams), whiteboarding tools, screen sharing, breakout rooms, file sharing, and support for unlimited attendees. It supports single sign-on and allows presenters to schedule and manage classes, track attendance, record sessions, and edit various WizIQ parameters directly within the Moodle environment.

The free service is available to teachers who register using their institutional e-mail addresses. According to WizIQ, the free membership is the equivalent of a "Solo Unlimited Premium account," valued at $690 for a year of service.

The Solo Unlimited Premium plan includes:

  • Commercial or non-commercial use, allowing teachers to offer their course for free or charge a fee to attendees;
  • Unlimited attendees;
  • 40 GB storage;
  • Custom URL;
  • Custom co-branding;
  • Recording;
  • Attendance reports;
  • Notifications;
  • Support;
  • Six-way video; and
  • Unlimited audio chat.

Free memberships are available now. Registration information can be found at wiziq.com/academic.
