North Carolina District Goes Digital for College and Career Readiness

Mooresville Graded School District in North Carolina has embarked on a digital conversion initiative, shifting from traditional instruction to digital, data-driven instruction models.

As part of that initiative, the district has chosen Hobson's Naviance, a college and career readiness platform that serves K-12 students by linking their academic achievements to post-secondary goals.

Naviance research tools are designed to help students assess their areas of interest and learning styles and then  match them to appropriate college and career options. The platform is also designed to help schools implement a "roadmap for student success" that includes individualized course plans for students, facilitation of the college application process, student surveys, and the ability to report and track the outcomes of their student population, according to the Naviance Web site.

"We are very excited about our partnership with Naviance and believe that the service and functionality of this digital resource will enhance the use of data with our digital conversion while also increasing scholarships for students," said Mark Edwards, Mooresville superintendent, in a release.

Additionally, the platform's reporting and analytics features are intended to allow educators at Mooresville to "enhance college and career readiness by monitoring and measuring student outcomes, and leveraging that information to make recommendations for improvement," according to a release.
