New App Pushes Comprehensive Lessons to Student Tablets
A new mobile-focused lesson designer, Famigo EDU, is launching, with the goal of letting teachers curate materials from various sources and push out lessons to students’ tablets.
Teachers can pull resources from all over the Web as well as PDFs, and licensed content from any education publishers their school has access to. Famigo, the company behind the lesson designer, also maintains its own library of apps, videos, and other resources aligned with standards, such as Common Core.
Mostly, the app is intended for K-5 classrooms, and students can navigate through teacher-approved materials right in the app and complete assignments via a digital notebook, shared with teachers.
Similar to other tablet platforms, teachers can remotely lock student devices, control the pace of the lesson, or switch to a blank screen to help focus class attention. Teachers can also share lessons with peers and message students directly through the app.
Currently, four schools in Texas are piloting the app, and a full release for Android is expected shortly. An iOS release is expected in early 2015.
