Scientific Learning Launches Reading Assistant iPad App

Scientific Learning has launched an iPad version of its reading support tool, Reading Assistant.

Reading Assistant uses speech recognition technology to support students as they read aloud in an effort to improve their reading level.

"Now available in the iTunes App Store, the new app enables K-12 schools with a Reading Assistant program license to provide the program's benefits to students through a new medium," according to a news release. "With the app, students can log in and work on Reading Assistant at school, at home or anywhere with an Internet connection. Combining the iPad's touchscreen technology with Reading Assistant's animated graphics, high interest reading selections and frequent comprehension checks makes it easy to keep students motivated and focused. In addition, teachers can easily measure comprehension and fluency improvement through easy-to-view reports."

"Every educator knows that students benefit from extra reading practice, especially when it's combined with immediate feedback and support," said Robert C. Bowen, CEO of Scientific Learning, in a prepared statement. "Our new iPad application makes it possible for schools to expand their use of Reading Assistant and provide a personal reading coach for every student who could benefit from guided oral reading instruction. No other program or e-book provides comparable real-time guidance and feedback."
