Deer Valley USD Moves to Blended Algebra
Deer Valley Unified School District in Arizona is adopting a blended math curriculum for all of its high schools.
The district has signed on to use Carnegie Learning's Blended Algebra I Math Curricula as its primary curriculum in one high school and as a supplementary curriculum in four other high schools. The curriculum combines textbooks with interactive lessons, collaborative classroom activities, and professional development. Built on Carnegie Learning's Cognitive Tutor, the curriculum supports self-paced differentiated instruction, customizable programs, and cooperative problem-solving.
"Carnegie Learning's philosophy of teaching allows us to prepare students for college and the 21st century workforce," said Lisa Bush, educational specialist and math content specialist for Deer Valley USD, in a prepared statement. "Through our evaluation process, we saw that Carnegie Learning Math Curriculum is one that truly engages students by connecting them to the real world and making math make sense. Carnegie Learning's research-based approach allows us to know with confidence that we are getting the best math curriculum for our students."
Deer Valley Unified School District serves more than 36,700 students in 16 K-6 elementary schools, 13 K-8 schools, three middle schools, and five high schools, as well as an online high school and an alternative school. It also operates 17 preschools and five Head Start sites. More than more than 4,200 students are enrolled in career and technical education programs at the district's high schools.
