NASA will stream a new series of professional development Webcasts this month focusing on hands-on learning activities in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
AMD is sponsoring a day-long game design workshop this May for teachers at an annual game conference. The chip maker's foundation is awarding a $100,000 grant to fund the workshop during Games for Change, which is hosted in New York by Parsons The New School for Design and the Games for Learning Institute at New York University.

A new five-year, $2.65 million grant from the National Science Foundation will connect Michigan State University researchers with K-12 students and teachers from several rural districts in Michigan. The program is designed not just to boost STEM literacy among the K-12 participants, but also to help develop the researchers into better scientists by letting them work on their teaching and communications skills.
The International Education and Resource Network (iEARN) will hold its 17th International Teachers Conference and Youth Summit (ITCYS) in Barrie, Ontario, Canada, July 12 through 17, 2010. The annual conference, hosted by iEARN-Canada, brings together from around the world educators who use the Internet and related technologies to enhance project-based learning (PBL) through online collaboration.

For teachers in the Thunder Bay Catholic School District, it's not a question of if they will get the chance to teach an autistic or "high-needs" student. It's a matter of when it will happen. "Within the last five years we've charted an alarming rate of students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) entering the school system," said Joel Godecki, ASD project director for the 8,000-student Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board in Northwestern Ontario.

A research project that evaluated an education cluster formed among teachers in Delaware has concluded that following the hybrid model of teaching is an effective approach to help teachers integrate international education into their instruction.

Beginning in September 2010, the state of Oregon will become the first to implement Pearson's National Evaluation Series teacher assessment tests for its statewide teacher certification program. The announcement came earlier this month from the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC).
