Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Knewton Partner To Offer Blended K-12 Math Program

Adaptive learning platform developer Knewton has entered into a partnership with educational publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) to augment their digital K-12 products with an adaptive infrastructure platform that customizes the student learning experience through real-time analytics and recommendations.

The first title to integrate Knewton's adaptive platform will be Personal Math Trainer Powered by Knewton in HMH's Go Math! series of interactive K-6 lessons that align to the Common Core Math Standards.

Blending data science, statistics, psychometrics, content graphing, and tagging, theKnewton platformanalyzes each student's personal strengths, weaknesses, preferences, and learning pace. The system's adaptive data structure provides real-time recommendations and strategies based on individual needs, challenges, and learning styles designed to help teachers identify which students may need extra help.

Key benefits include:

  • Analytics designed to provide insight into individual student performance and quality of educational content;
  • Adaptive practice provides students with targeted recommendations for extra assignments and assessments to supplement primary coursework; and
  • Adaptive coursework determines each student's flow through course material.

Personal Math Trainer Powered by Knewton is scheduled to launch this fall with additional core curriculum subjects such as English, reading, science, social studies, and others to follow.

"Many solutions claim to offer an adaptive learning experience, but we believe that Knewton offers a level of rigor, analysis, and insight that reflects the best of what our industry has to offer," said Mary Cullinane, chief content officer and executive vice president of corporate affairs at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, in a prepared statement.
