Earwig Snaps Photo Evidence of Student Achievement

A British company has launched a new service that provides a way for teachers to create evidence of student achievement — and remind themselves about the impact they're making as teachers. The Earwig Academic Timelines says it expects to make its online service available in the United States in 2015. The system allows the educator to "capture" a learning moment by taking a photo or video during class, adding commentary, and then having it automatically organized into a logical sequence of images that becomes a timeline for every student.
The service can also provide timelines for teachers of every class, subject, team or project and generate the content for a school blog using the content maintained by teachers in Earwig's school image bank.
Parents can log in to see their child's timeline. Earwig also provides a mechanism by which families can purchase the images and video clips that make up the timeline, providing a share of that revenue back to the school.
The service was developed in the United Kingdom by The Memory Library, a company that allows individuals to do the same thing — organize, store, present and disseminate photos, text and videos. Currently, Earwig is seeking schools to act as beta testers for the service. In return the company will provide free in-school setup, teacher training, support and access to Earwig for three years.
