Distance Ed. Center Opens in Canada

The Bell Canada Center for Distance Education, which opened in May, is designed to help both instructors and students get the most out of distance learning. Located at George Brown College in Toronto, and the first of its kind in Canada, the center trains instructors how to teach and students how to learn via interactive videoconferencing technology. Curriculum for the facility is being provided by The Teletraining Institute. There is a three-year certificate program for instructors, which includes both teaching methods as well as designing and delivering curricula. There are a series of day courses to train students how to receive such instruction, covering use of response keypads, for example. There is also a course to teach people how to use multimedia to enhance their communications. Bell Canada, The Teletraining Institute and George Brown College jointly operate the facility. The Teletraining Institute, Stillwater, OK, (800) 755-2356.
