Early Learning Tools Editors' Pick: Young Explorer PC Pal

IBM and Little Tikes have partnered to create a unique learning center that combines furniture, a computer and software in one integrated product. The IBM/Little Tikes’ Young Explorer PC Pal combines a child’s desk with a fully functional child-sized PC. Designed for children ages 3 to 7, the multimedia computer comes preloaded with educational software and is supported by curriculum guides. The PC comes with a monitor, speakers, Intel 733 MHz Celeron processor, internal CD-ROM, 64 MB of memory, a 10 GB hard drive, Microsoft Windows 98 and an audio card. Its flat “membrane” keyboard has brightly colored keys and an easy wipe-off surface. The desk has a flat surface for school work, mouse pads to accommodate left- and right- handed children, and a bench seat that can fit two students. The desk is scaled to place the monitor, keyboard and mouse within easy reach for a young child.
