Vision6 Adds Wireless Classroom Management Capabilities

GenevaLogic has released version 6.8 of its Vision classroom management software. The new version brings a variety of additions to the platform, including enhanced reliability and connectivity. But the big news is a new extension that gives teachers the ability to control classroom computers from wireless mobile devices.
According to GenevaLogic, the new wireless capability (possible through the company's free Vision@Hand extension) was developed in direct response to teacher feedback in late 2007. Vision@Hand is intended to provide classroom teachers greater flexibility and enhanced control over classroom computers and Internet usage by allowing them to interact with student PCs--explaining problems or walking through examples--without the need to go back to their desk and log on to their own desktop.
"We have always been committed to responding to educators' feedback and keeping Vision on the cutting edge of technology, and now we are the first company to offer teachers mobile control of classroom computers," said Kirk Greiner, executive vice president, Netop Solutions A/S, and former CEO of GenevaLogic, in a prepared statement. "Vision@Hand takes the technology that teachers already have at their fingertips--their PDAs and smartphones--and combines it with Vision to put classroom computer management in their hands, unleashing them from the restraints of their desks or computer workstations."
Education pricing for the software is $35 per computer, with a 10-computer minimum. Current Vision6 users on version 6.5 or higher can upgrade for free. Additionally, the Vision@Hand extension is available in beta, free to all existing Vision6 customers. (Note that Vision@Hand requires version 6.5 or higher.)
